SDHC formating

I keep killing SDHC cards cards in my Eeepc; I keep killing 'em where I haven't got admin rights to a Windows machine so I need to keep going back to google and searching for how to do it via the command line (re-reading Snow Crash!) on the said Eeepc. I've been doing this so many times that I thought I'd write down the process and save myself some time in the future:

Insert the card (make sure it's not cold or for some reason my Eeepc doesn't recognize that a card has been inserted...

/home/user> sudo mount

This will show where the SDHC card is mounted, usually (all the times I've done this but YMMV) it'll be /dev/sdb1.

/home/user> sudo umount /dev/sdb1
/home/user> sudo fdisk /dev/sdb1

We need to delete anything that is there and then create a new primary partition (keeping hitting "m" for ideas of how to do this) we then need to write this to the disk. Then we need to eject the card and reinsert it and do this:

/home/user> sudo mkfs.vfat -c -F 32 /dev/sdb1

That should be it though it's worth noting that sometimes we'll need to delete any existing partitions before creating new ones. Odd things SDHC cards, just wish I knew how I manage to keep killing 'em.

This story about child elopers nigh on made me melt.

Honeymoon

The Garden at Riyad Charai

We left the UK from London Luton at 06:00 on the 1st of December on flight FR3506 and arrived at Marrakesh 09:30ish. After taking a bus into the Medina we got off at Djemaa el Fna where we got bloody lost... a lot... before taking a petit taxi to Bab El-Khemis where we got lost again before finally getting to Riad Charai. The Riyad was lush but the surroundings were less so TBH.

After 2 days we went by Supratours bus to Essaouira where we'd been booked into a Riad for a couple of nights by a friend... unfortunately we got there a day early so had to find alternative accommodation. After again getting lost (a lot) we stopped overnight in Hotel Riad Zahra, don't get room 13 though as the bed is not the most comfortable in the whole world... Moroccan TV is a scream though - especially if you can't understand Arabic.

Upon waking we made our way to Hôtel Dar L'Oussia, which was cool as it had underfloor heating though it was only available for 2 nights as they closed for the weekend so we then went to Maison du Sud which wasn't as nice but wasn't that bad TBH.

We did sort of plan to stop for 2 nights but instead left the next day to go visit Katrina's friend Fatima and her lovely family at Imi-n-Tanoute where we were invited to stop overnight. We went there and subsequently returned to Marrakesh in grand taxis.

Upon returning to Marrakech we stopped at the Ibis near the train station for the final 2 nights before returning on flight FR3507 on the 10th of December 2008.

Cool Script

HighSlide needs looking at some more TBH.

The text in the header is Lucida Sans Semi-Bold at 100px with -7 character spacing: It was scaled to 740 wide and 80 tall and then gaussian blurred at 5px in the GIMP:

Fantastic quote

Fuck you, Great Yarmouth, I have machines to run.

This is perhaps the best quote I've ever read and goes on about generating electricity from the temperature differential between different layers of the ocean (from the New Scientist, something that I first came across when I was a wee nipper and reading the The Usborne Book of the Future (link is dead now but it was really rather cool).

Liquid Layout & Situationist Online

The perfect multi column liquid layouts CSS will certainly need looking at, especially as I could try to put ads on here...

A mate's BF's site led me to this: situationist international online. How odd!

You are what you (we) eat

This image was inspired by Izaac... actually that's not strictly speaking true; it was copied from a picture by Izaac who was told about by Ash as he'd seen it in a magazine... ahh well.
